Happy June! – Can’t believe we are heading for mid-year already!! …I can feel a mid-winter Christmas dinner coming on – spiced mulled wine, duck liver pate with warm brioche, whiskey and marmalade glazed ham and rosemary & garlic winter roasties …now what for dessert ?
We have had lots happening …styling many gorgeous chicken dishes for Rangitikei chicken – these really are the best corn fed chicks ever, you are always guaranteed a gorgeous golden glow when cooking thanks to their corn and marigold diet.
Wild Bean cafe – hearty toasted sub sammies, and plenty of Pams honest and delicious supermarket goodies.
Another huge Bidvest Brochure – these are such fun, fast paced shoots, I can’t wait to see it all laid up! – I must say the Bid Fresh produce (fruit & vegetables) we got to play with was of an incredibly high standard and refreshing to see.
My hubby and I also enjoyed a whirlwind trip to Melbourne last week …there were six of us and I am sure we ate for at least 20!!
Arrived Friday morning – A hire car headed us out of the city and to the Yara Valley for a yummy lunch and bubbles at Chandon (with the added bonus of kangroo spotting!)
On to barrel tasting and a winery tour at Cold Stream Hills and a nibble at the Yara Valley cheese factory –gorgeous !
Then to our accommodation at the tiny stylish town of Healesville – we stayed at the classic Healesville Hotel which was right up my alley …think pressed tin ceilings, flowers and Autumn vases galore, lamps and velvet! A country pub oozing with style. And a darling café attached, a gourmet butcher and fromagerie next door! Definitely a place I would love more time in to mooch around the antique and designer stores. But the city (and shops) of Melbourne are calling.
So a few bargain buys are had at DFO shopping mega city and a couple of glamourous buys at David Jones and inner city boutiques, a stylish lunch at a river side café and a few more wines to keep the Hydration up! Oh and a beer or two to celebrate 2015 Melbourne Beer Week! How convenient!
But the main aim and most looked forward to event was finally here – a 16 course degustation at Vue De Monde!
Oysters / Wallaby / salmon pearls / lamb heart / duck tougne / smoked eel / barramundi / kangaroo / beef bone / duck egg / nitro flowers / marron / ox / kingfish / soufflé / fromage! Not to mention the hand churned butter, homemade salt & vinegar spiced chips and added extras.
The wine matches were amazing hence the bill was more than the food! A kitchen tour by our perfect waiter completed an epic night (plus a sweet wee take home pack for the morning after breakfast!)
An amazing fun weekend with Friends/family …already planning the next one …Sydney!
Eat Well xx
